Ganja Festival 2020 to Be Hosted in Thailand

It has been announced that Thailand will serve as host for the first-ever World Ganja Festival in 2020. The event is designed to highlight the benefits of cannabis and promote Thailand as a leader in growing high-quality strains of marijuana.

The event is being organized by The Association of Researchers of Thailand in association with the Thai Nationalism Foundation; the Journalist and Media Association of Thailand and provincial administrative organizations of Nakhon Phanom; Sakon Nakhon and Mukdahan, and will take place in Mukdahan at a 40-acre venue near the Nong Yat Reservoir in Nakhon Phanom province and will run from January 29 next year to Feb 2.

Gen. Charan Kullawanit, an honorary adviser to the World Ganja Festival project, said “We’re the main host. Thailand’s the main host. We’re deciding who we will invite. The association chairperson said there’ll be Chinese, Japanese and American guests. They once opposed the idea. We’ll invite them so we can listen to their academic ideas, presentations and statements. We’ll see how the event will benefit the global community.”

The World Ganja Festival will feature academic seminars, technological innovations, and business negotiations, as well as music festival.

Organizers also said that the event is aimed to create new marijuana opportunities for Thailand and promote the benefits of marijuana.

Unfortunately for those picturing a less academically oriented event, The World Ganja Festival will not involve sampling of marijuana products as the plant is still highly regulated in Thailand and is currently only available through licensed providers for specific medical conditions.

Despite the tight restrictions, Thailand appears to be very serious about becoming a major player in the cultivation of medical marijuana. They were the fist South East Asian country to legalize marijuana for any sort of use and they anticipate their head-start will allow them to dominate the emerging industry.
